YogaMedics Spine Care Program administered to Beaumont Employees suffering from Chronic Back Pain
October 2009
Abstract
Background: Chronic back pain has both physical and psychological implications. Currently there are only modestly effective treatment options that address back care from a physical, mental, and emotional perspective. The objective of this study is to determine whether the 12-week YogaMedics Spine Care protocols demonstrate positive results both physically and psychologically.
Methods: A prospective analysis of Beaumont employees suffering from chronic back pain who participated in a 12 week YogaMedics evidence-based Spine Care program.
Measurements: Primary outcomes were measured using standardized clincal surveys which assessed both pain and mental wellness. Participants completed the surveys pre- and post-invervention.
Limitations: Of the 51 participants, only 21 completed both pre- and post-questionnaires.
Conclusions: Compliant participants of the 12-week YogaMedics Spine Care protocol significantly improved both physical and psychological aspects related to chronic back pain. The positive dimensions of mood increased. There was a significant decrease in negative dimensions of mood, pain, and negative impacts.
