Q: What is Spine Care and how does it differ from traditional yoga classes?
A: The spine care classes were developed by a medical advisory team (physicians, physical therapists, psychologists and other medical professionals as well as yoga experts) using a specific protocol that targets individuals experiencing chronic back/neck pain; those healing from spine related problems; as well as those looking to prevent injury as well as maintain wellness. Traditional yoga postures are modified by clinical experts to accomplish evidence based treatment goals such as building strength, flexibility, range of motion and targeting areas necessary for spine health and optimal function.
Q: Why should a student take a spine care specific class?
A: A student should take a spine care class if they are experiencing any back/neck pain/problems that might be limiting their everyday activities. If they are recovering from a spine related problem such as disc herniation, sciatica, spinal stenosis. It offers specific poses and direction that will provide them with physical benefits to support the spine and neck. It will also help to learn the tools to prevent future injury, reduce pain, and improve function.
Q: What parts of the spine are addressed in spine care?
A: The whole length of the vertebrae from lower spine all the way up to neck. The areas of the body necessary to support the spine are also addressed (such as: core/abdominal strength, quadriceps strength, hamstring flexibility).

A: Research has shown that doing YogaMedics twice a week for 12 weeks is the optimal amount practiced to reduce pain and improve function. YogaMedics is a long term solution to chronic pain. It is important to recognize that you will need a minimum of 8-12 sessions in order to experience noticeable difference in the way you feel. Practicing some movements or poses on your own can enhance your experience.
Q: Should I be feeling sore as my first couple Back Care visits?
